Can you believe we built a planetarium last week? The dome looks incredible. It is a magical collection of equilateral and isosceles triangles connected by binder clips. I look forward to our first show, but we are still waiting for the curved mirror to come in the mail. Until then, we will continue to grow our brains as we look at how the moon orbits the Earth and how that impacts the way we see it on Earth.
Inquiry
Space:
Why does the moon change shape? How often does it change? This week we investigate the phases of the moon, exploring the relationship between the moon, Earth and the sun.
Math
Geometry - Tangrams:
This week we put all of our learning together as we use tangrams to create shapes. A fabulous puzzle activity, tangrams will give us the opportunity to use our geometric vocabulary while figuring out how to arrange the triangles and quadrilaterals into curious shapes.
Reading
Predictions:
We continue our unit on making predictions. We will work on activating our schema in order to predict future events in our books. When we take a moment to think about what we already know about a topic, characters, genre and/or plot in order to make incredibly accurate guesses about what will happen.
Writing
Plot Mountain:
We continue to work on developing our medieval stories, incorporating the elements of Plot Mountain. While writing the resolutions, we will also work on using what we know about strong endings: repeating words or themes or restating the solution to the problem.
CURRENT EVENTS (in reversed alphabetical order)
