Now that we have cut out the walls to our medieval homes, we are excited to attach them to our foundations. This coming week our medieval town comes to life! We’ll save the roofing for when we come back from Winter Break. This week we also finalize our calendar gift. Who are you going to give yours to?
Inquiry
Medieval Life:
Our walls have been measured and cut. This week we put all the pieces together with one of Ms. M’s favorite tools – the hot glue gun. Working in small groups, we will carefully glue the walls to the foundations, using right angles to keep the walls straight.
Math
Time and Measurement:
When we are not finalizing our calendar project, we will be playing math games. This is a great chance to revisit some old favorites, reviewing concepts we have learned through out the year.
Reading
Visualizing (Making Mental Pictures):
This is the last week of our unit on mental imagery. We will review how using our imagination to make images in our mind can help us be better readers.
Writing
Advertisements:
This Friday the Magical Minds will create their own Student-Led Market Day in class. They will make products or provide services to sell for Magical Money. Thus, our writing sessions will be dedicated to analyzing and creating effective advertisements to promote their goods and services.
CURRENT EVENTS (in reversed alphabetical order)
Second grade current events will resume in January of 2013
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Winter Festival on Wednesday, Dec. 19th
Our annual Winter Festival will take place on December 19th from 4-6pm. Please come dressed in your nicest holiday attire. If you are afraid of getting dirty during recess or PE, bring your fancy clothes in an extra bag. I can’t wait to hear the songs you have been working on!
Star of the Week – Isabelle
This week begins our "Star of the Week" program. Each week we will be celebrating a member of our class. Students are encouraged to decorate, color, add pictures and embellish their poster. When you are the “Star,” you will be given an undecorated poster on Friday. Please return it and be ready to share with the class on Monday. On Friday at 3:15 the Star of the Week is invited to share a TREAT with the class. TREATS may include edibles (MUST BE DAIRY and GLUTEN FREE), a Read-Aloud from a favorite story/poem, a song, or other creative ideas.
