Last week we discovered that not all paper towels are created equally. Some of us tested which brand was the strongest and which brand was the most absorbent. You’ll have to come by and see the results at our mini/preparatory Science Fair. This coming week we share our experiments and conclusions at AVS’s third annual Science Fair. Be there or be square!
Inquiry
Thinking Like a Scientist:
This week marks the end of our unit on the scientific method. We will explore the concept of states of matter, and how particles behave when they are in solids, liquids and gases. In the process of investigating how temperature affects the behavior of particles we will test how to melt an ice cube the quickest. Finally, on Thursday we will present our Science Fair Projects.
Math
Math Games:
This week will review the games we have learned this year. Through constant rotation during Math Stations, you will have a chance to work with a variety of manipulatives and concepts. Perhaps we will even make some how-to videos for the website.
Reading
Jotting Down Connections:
This week we conclude our unit on Making Connections, taking time to stop and jot down our thinking and later sharing our connections with the class. We will also discuss digging deeper and how to think of more meaningful connections.
Writing
Characters Change Over Time:
Last week we looked at how to write characters that come to life by collecting adjectives to describe our characters. This week we talk about how characters change over the course of a book, combining what we know about characters and plot.
