The Week of May 20th
The blood, sweat and tears paid off, as last week’s presentation of biographies was phenomenal. We couldn’t be more proud of our amazing students. More then just the facts the Magical Minds impressed us with the personal lessons and connections they made with their Change Makers.
Inquiry
Force and Motion:
Having mastered Newton’s three laws of motion, we move onto a week of investigating simple machines. Of course we also continue to build Rube Goldberg’s. After learning about each simple machine, we will build simple chain reactions that incorporate examples of that simple machine.
Math
Division:
In the spirit of creative, hands-on learning we will utilize our division skills to present various strategies. Students will teach groups using colorful posters to demonstrate division problem’s, solve and check.
Reading
Making Inferences:
Sometimes authors don’t write the whole story; they leave clues. This week we will use our magical powers of deduction to figure out the hidden messages between the lines. In particular we will examine how poets convey a bounty of meaning in a small amount of words.
Writing
Poetry:
One of Ms. M’s favorite units, we end the year creating poems. We begin with an inquiry into what makes a poem a poem, writing unstructured poems that speak from the heart and personal experience.
