Whether you are traveling or relaxing at home we hope you are enjoying your week off with family, friends and a great book! Last week we discovered war, love, vanity and natural phenomenon (not your typical 2nd grade class) as we explored the exciting tales and characters of Greek Myths. The myths helped us remember the Constellations as we learned where many of the star groups get their names and meanings.
Inquiry - Space:
We will wrap up Constellations and study Seasons; not just basic summer, spring, fall and winter, but how we tilt on the earth’s axis and orbit around the sun (dress appropriately…hint, hint).
Math – Multiplication:
We will take a step back to review addition strategies, mental math and carrying skills in order to take steps forward in the direction of multiplication. Also turn your math vocabulary on as we tackle word problems and math puzzles.
Writing – Nonfiction:
The Magical Minds have become creative and imaginative writers, and now we turn our analytical brains on and focus on Non-Fiction writing; using our knowledge of the 5W’s (who, what, where, when, why, and how) to write informational pieces.
Reading – Nonfiction:
Just like writing, we are concentrating on Non-Fiction reading; challenging ourselves to read books that are true, about real things, people, events and places (we will also be choosing non-fiction library books).
Current Event- Second grade current events will resume in mid-March.
Announcement- No School Monday Feb. 18th
