With their roofs thatched, our medieval homes are complete, and we are ready to move onto our next unit of inquiry - space! What do you know about outer space? We begin with a comparative study of the planets in our solar system.
Inquiry
Space:
This week we begin our unit on outer space. We begin with a review of what is in our solar system. We will inquire into the planets in our solar system and investigate how they are similar and different. We will also discuss the movement of the planets and elliptical orbits.
Math
Geometry:
This week we are studying about triangles and quadrilaterals. We will investigate different kinds of angles (acute, obtuse and right) and lines (intersecting, perpendicular and parallel).
Reading
Making Predictions:
Using what we know about genre we will explore traditional fiction, such as fairtytales and myths. We will inquire how we can use our knowledge of genre elements to make educated guesses/predictions about what will happen in our stories.
Writing
Plot:
We will continue to draft stories that incorporate the elements of Plot Mountain. Using storyboard sheets, the Magical Minds are plotting out when characters are introduced, conflicts arise and resolutions are reached.
CURRENT EVENTS (in reversed alphabetical order)
Current Events are presentations on events and things that are new to you. This week the teachers are sharing, modeling what a quality Current Event looks like. There will be more information on this to come, but for now you can take a look at last year’s webpage for inspiration and clarification.
