Our inquiry into the reasons for the seasons was rather illuminating last week. It’s nice to know we are headed toward Spring and equal hours of light and dark. We are sad to see our Space unit coming to an end, but we will always have the moon and stars at night. Get energized for our next investigation!
Inquiry
Energy and Matter
What’s the matter? This week we will work to define what matter is, identify its different forms and compare how different forms of matter behave. We will also zoom into matter, exploring what it is made up of – inquiring into the world of atoms.
Math
Multiplication:
Numerate people know that math is all around us. Where do you find multiplication in everyday life? This week we investigate what multiplication is, how it is used and why we use it. We will read stories that use multiplication as well as replicate real-world scenarios. We will play with math manipulatives and learn a new game.
Reading
Research Skills:
If you wanted to learn more about a topic, how would you go about finding information in a book? This week we examine the first stages of the research process, learning how to locate informational texts and identify relevant information.
Writing
Note-Taking:
Once you find some great books for your research, how do you keep track of your findings? This week we will work on taking notes, which we can use later when we make our own nonfiction text.
CURRENT EVENTS (in reversed alphabetical order)
Second grade current events will resume in mid-March
