Inquiry
Stuff In Motion: Who is Isaac Newton? What are the laws of motion? This week we begin an investigation into Sir Isaac Newton and his Scientific Laws of Motion. We are also diligently building our Medieval Village, making final adjustments and measurements on our structures. As part of our investigation into Newton’s First Law of Motion, we will experiment with creating a watermill for our village.
Math
Games: As we enter the last week of the quarter, I have planned a week of reflection. We will revisit the games we have learned and maybe even create some instructional videos on how to play them.
Reading
Fluency: The Magical Minds have another reading date with the Junior Kindergarteners, and we focus on reading with fluency and expression. This week we will focus on making quality read aloud movies, using technology in the classroom to take pictures, create keynote presentations and record voiceovers.
Writing
In Writer’s Workshop last week, we assembled our books. We used our handmade paper for endsheets! This week, we’ll work on final touches – a dust jacket, brushing up illustrations and words, and practicing for Author’s Chair (which is on Monday, November 21!)
Word Study
Vowel Digraph – Long A Words: This week we continue our investigation of the various ways to create the long A sound, for example, -ay, -ai,, -eigh, and a-e (bossy e). We will have another pre-test on Monday and post-test on Friday to help the Magical Minds reflect on their own progress.

Sharing (Tuesdays)
Each week one or two children will share a Passion Project. Passion Projects are MADE BY Magical Minds and are about something they care about, something that is important to them. This week Kaya and Bryce will share at this week’s class meeting.
Second Grade Tea Party (Friday)
This Friday we celebrate our classroom community. While nibbling on delectable treats and sipping decaf teas, the Magical Minds (and guests) will watch an animated version of The BFG. We will practice using our best manners and review the movie, comparing it to Roald Dahl’s original book.
