Stuff in Motion: Our Waterbox project is underway, as you may have seen from our pictures. This week, the Magical Minds will build miniature versions of Ed’s waterbox. They will use their measurement skills to cut the right sized hosing and to measure the diameter of their hose. Working in teams, we will investigate if the size of the piping effects the rate of flow of water.
Measurement: Last week the Magical Minds formed four measurement teams: Distance Team (“The Rulers”), Volume Team (“The Gallons”), Weight Team (“The Pounds”), and the Time Team (“The Stopwatches”). We will focus on using the appropriate units and adding measurements (putting our double digit skills to use).
Characters and Prior Knowledge: The Magical Minds have a strong understanding of how to describe the external traits of characters. In order to better understand the internal traits of characters, we will use our schema to develop empathy for characters. The goal is to understand the motivations of characters, investigating why characters change over time and explaining their actions.
Building Books: In Writer’s Workshop this week, we’ll explore creating hard covers for our wonderful stories! We look forward to publication and we are so excited about sharing our finished books soon.
Blends: A blend is when two letters combine to create a blended sound, such as cr, bl, sp… This week we investigate how we can use blends with the CVC and CVC-e rules, creating words such as crab, blot and spat (CVC words with blends) or crate, blade and spade (CVC-e words with blends).
