Inquiry
It’s Written in the Stars – Observing the Sky:
As we continue our investigation into the Solar System, we will explore the orbit of the Earth around the Sun as well as the orbit of the Moon around the Earth. We will finally build our sundials (check your email for a list of supplies that we need).
Math
Time:
The Magical Minds are quickly becoming excellent time tellers, identifying time into the minutes. This week we look at elapsed time as well as inquiring into the difference between AM and PM. Finally, we will learn how to use the language of half and quarter to describe time.
Reading
Nonfiction:
We continue to look at how we can use nonfiction texts to find answers to our questions, keeping track of new learning by recording the title of the book, the fact we learned and the page number. This helps us get ready for our upcoming research project. Our goal is for the Magical Minds to feel confident using nonfiction texts to find information.
Writing
Adding Meaningful Details:
Last week in Writer's Workshop, we brainstormed ideas for our next big stories. This week, we will work on adding meaningful details to these stories

Announcements
Please Touch Community Garden – Friday, 10am-noon
In Garden we have been learning about permaculture, which focuses on “People Care, Earth Care, Fair Share.” We will be practicing those principles as we explore the Please Touch Community Garden, which is across the street from City Hall. On our trip we will plant starts that we grew at school and build a compost heap.
Sharing (Tuesdays)
Each week one child shares a Passion Project. Passion Projects are MADE BY the Magical Minds and are about something they care about, something that is important to them. This week William will share his travel journal from his ski trip.
Fixit Clinic:
Because the Magical Minds have been learning about machines and electricity, I wanted to pass along this announcement about an upcoming event hosted by The Lawrence Hall of Science. On March 25th from 1-4pm:
Bring your broken, nonfunctioning things—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, and so on—for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Whether we fix it or not, you’ll learn more about how it was manufactured and how it worked. This is a family-friendly event: children are heartily invited!
