All About Energy – Machines:
While continuing our designing and building of moving robots, the Magical Minds will also investigate how machines can be used to reduce the amount of force needed to move objects.
Last week the Magical Minds inquired into the concept of division, looking at the relationship between multiplication and division. This week we add a new strategy to our problem-solving toolkit, using arrays to break up numbers into equal numbers of rows and columns.
Creating Mental Images:
We carry on our conversation about the pictures we create in our minds while reading. The Magical Minds will discover that people’s mental images often differ because we have different schemas. Using our prior knowledge, we will discuss and reflect on how visualizing enhances comprehension and increases enjoyment while reading.
This week in Writer’s Workshop, we’ll continue with our final draft stories and begin our pamphlet-stitch books. In order to cover these published pieces with beautiful paper, we’ll make some handmade paper embellished with dried flower and colorful bits!
Long U Words:
The Magical Minds begin to wrap up a unit on long vowel sounds, with this investigation into the spelling patterns used to make the long /u/ sound: bossy e (cute), ue (blue), ew (knew).
